They’re back! In our neck of the woods, the black flies have been buzzing around for the last few weeks with mosquitoes soon to follow…ugh! Years ago, we found this simple recipe in a Country Living magazine for all natural bug repellent. We tried it out and it seemed to work pretty well. You need to reapply the spray more often than the deet sprays but it smells so good that it wasn’t a problem. We bought the witch hazel in the grocery store and everything else at The Mustard Seed in Nottingham, NH. (including the spray bottle). However, you can buy your essential oils and bottles online from any number of sources.
All Natural Bug Spray
3 1/2 ounces (which is basically 1/3 cup) of Witch Hazel
1/2 teaspoon Lemongrass Oil
1/2 teaspoon Eucalyptus Oil
1/2 teaspoon Citronella Oil
Combine all ingredients in a small four-once spray bottle.
Happy spraying!

Hey Julie;
I am sitting home on this cd Saturday trolling the internet and stumbled across your blog.
Let me tell you, I love it! I can’t wait to make the bug spray, the sweetie pies, oh and the blueberry pie. Of couse made with your blueberries. I will have to come with Deanna (DJ).
It’s too cold this weekend to go snowshoeing, so inside by the pellet stove I sit.
Meeting Deanna for lunch tomorrow in Portland. Haven’t seen her since Thanksgiving.
When is your next race with Deanna? I may bring mimosas and bread for the finish line! Haha
Take care,
Cathy Jo.
Hey Cathy Jo, Unbelievably cold today…DJ and I ran in Dover this morning and I had to turn around because I thought my fingers were getting frostbite…running is so much fun! But mimosas and bread make it better 🙂 Have fun in Portland tomorrow…love that city! Stay warm!
